Warrior Energies

Astrology with Daniel Sowelu

Last month we saw the Sun and Moon locked into the square between Pluto and Uranus and therefore entwining (some would say chaining) our day to day lives to this massive push for radical and ever-deepening change. While the Sun has now moved on into Leo, another collection of planets and asteroids have constellated in early Cancer to also engage the Pluto/Uranus.

For months, the warrior collective Mars, Pallas Athena and the Lilith asteroid have been travelling together and now they have caught up with Jupiter and the Black Moon, five archetypes all together while opposing Pluto and squaring Uranus! It is clear that the intensity of the last month is far from over.

There is no lack of energy in this conglomeration combining Martian warrior, armoured Amazon, serpentine feminist supreme, Lord of Olympus and the Dark Mother. Even though it is toned down by the watery nature of Cancer, there is a tremendous potency for action, forward movement and for conflict, depending on one's intensions and clarity around the use of desire and power.

It is no accident that the Middle East conflicts are spreading as the worst of the destructive elements of these kinds of line-ups are being played out on the world stage. The love of home and family, the urge to belong in Cancer gets warped into extreme nationalism and tribalistic "us and them" divisions.

On an inner, more personal, level in the luxury of a safe country what does this portend? We can certainly draw from deep emotional and psychological resources when we act and follow our desires as there is a taproot into the deep feminine that can fuel our passion, drive and convictions. However there is a complex mix of light and dark in this combination which calls for a deep examination of our personal shadows. As Jung once said, the only truly powerful people are those who know their shadows deeply and are not seduced by them.

What we do know is that Pluto and Uranus will use their pressure-cooker effect to bring up what is distorted and destructive in our energies along the way towards liberating and empowering each of us in ways that were inconceivable a few years ago. Power struggles with others, sudden events that activate unreleased emotions, increasing levels of stress, irritability and restlessness are all symptomatic.

In a climate like this one of the key issues is what we do, or don't do, with anger, rage and its toxic unconscious equivalents, whatever its origins - personal, trans-generational, past life even. When we have unhealed issues here, our warrior energies are occluded, our confidence, drive and passion are severely hindered and we struggle to translate our gifts, potency and visions into manifestation.

As we work with this deep, challenging territory, our inner warriors get more effective, freer in their actions, while liberating old energy that limits our capacity for joy and aliveness. Our experience will let us know how much we can draw from these deeper reservoirs of power and Shakti, and what we need to do to enhance our warriors, masculine and feminine.

This is the gift of the pressure cooker if we can see it for what it is and act accordingly.

In the last months, we've had a fantastic Grand Trine between Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune, which I've raved about as being one of the best for manifesting our visions and creativity into the world. This Grand Trine is still in play and is in the very middle of this intense warrior collection. Every one of the five archetypes in Cancer, then, receives great aspects from Saturn and Neptune, bringing discipline and self responsibility from the former and great sensitivity and expanded awareness from the latter.

Inter-related to the above, there is also a big focus on relationships this month. The goddess asteroid Juno is at the pinnacle of the chart, curiously along with the so-called virginal Diana/Artemis. This points to a time of working the balances between intimacy and connectedness with the need to maintain healthy boundaries and personal autonomy.

Venus is also in Virgo, a position that demands the same kind of balancing. She has great aspects all over the chart, sextiles to all the warriors, to Jupiter, Black Moon, to Saturn and Persephone in Scorpio, and has a flowing trine to Pluto. The goddess of love and beauty is also central to the healing energies of the month, as she is conjunct the medicine woman Hekate, opposite Chiron and Neptune and trining the healing goddess Hygeia in Taurus.

Some of you will have observed that in the last 18 months we have had almost continuous difficult aspects to Venus and Juno. This represents a big collective shift in relationship dynamics and our notions of marriage towards a vision of relationship that holds both greater transformative depth and a more exalted heart to heart, soul to soul unity. This vision is embodied astrologically in this, and in later months, as Psyche conjuncts the North Node in Scorpio. As Venus receives some surgical healing from Chiron while being held by the other great healers, she also sends good aspects to Psyche and the North Node.

This is another big month. Take care, extract its gifts and keep it all moving.
