Karmic Turning Point

Astrologer Daniel Sowelu sees we are clearly at a major karmic turning point

Oh Lord and Goddess, it's going to be another rollercoaster of a year. Once again the chart for 2015 is locked into the Uranus/Pluto square, as it has been since 2012. This represents another period of deep structural evolution and revolution, the shattering of old structures and mindsets, the liberation of previously stuck energies amid the chaos and madness and huge karmic movements, within and without.

By the end of 2016, we will look back at these years and realise how profoundly changed we are as individuals and as societies. It is a period of rapid and often relentless change and challenges, deep purifications, a quickening of all our spiritual, psychological and healing processes, yet exhilaration as we rediscover previously lost parts of ourselves. It's like the whole planet is undergoing a Kundalini awakening, meaning that everything speeds up, the proverbial flies, we get dragged through the underworld and find deeper and more orgasmic levels of liberation.

One of the best things about the chart is that we also have great relationships between the Sun and its fellow travellers in Capricorn with the Moon in Taurus - a profoundly stabilising connection at the core of the collective that will give us deep and high quality earthing while the terrestrial energies are in so much flux.

The Sun then is conjunct Pluto, Vesta and the Shiva asteroid, an intense powerhouse of sacred and transformative energy, drawing from the primal depths of the body, the lower chakras and the core of the earth. The energy behind the cycle of life and death, Pluto, pulls us into the deeper layers of our psyche to work with karmic, ancestral and psychosexual layers of being, to both purify and empower us at the deepest levels.

Shiva is both Pluto's eastern equivalent and the still core of our being that is unmoved by life's dramas as the perfect yogi, which fits well with the priestess Vesta, who also serves to contain and concentrate power in all its forms to direct it well in the world. This is a major opportunity for 2015 but one that also demands a deep clarity about our objectives and the purity of our desires.

This multiple conjunction is the base of a Grand Cross that replicates that of the October 8th eclipse, involving the Nodes, Uranus in Aries and the healing goddess Hygeia in Cancer. At the midpoint between the South and North Nodes, we are clearly at a major karmic turning point within ourselves and for the planet.

While Plutonian processes are normally long and slow, the Uranus square radicalises and escalates the pace . In Aries, he has been awakening many to greater expressions of their fiery independence and passion, freer of Saturnian conditioning and old fears of claiming a life fully lived. This will continue.

The healing and spiritual opportunities for the year are equally great, with a fabulous trine between Hygeia and Chiron, a healing marriage of sorts with both aspecting the Sun and its fellow travellers.

Saturn, now in Sagittarius, starts the year conjunct the warrior and culture goddess Pallas Athena, a potent union of can-do energies intent on the physical expressions of ideas, knowledge and inspiration in the world. The wise old one and his business-like granddaughter are both capable of great self denial and focused commitment. When onside they can be quite unstoppable and they have good supportive aspects to Mercury and Venus in Capricorn.

However, they are in a strong and tricky T-square with the Kali-like Black Moon in Virgo and the mystical Neptune in Pisces. The former square has been active for months, a challenge between two great powers with deep light and dark qualities. In some ways this is a stand off between the empowering and awakening demands of the deep sacred feminine and the conservative energies of the patriarch, a perfect yet gruelling alchemical equation for the purification of both.

Saturn square Neptune is even trickier, as they represent such different layers of reality, earthy versus the illusive energies of the psychic and spiritual dimensions. It's a juggle as Saturn challenges the flaky edges of spiritual life and practice to sort the differences between delusion and clear insight, while Neptune dissolves Saturnian structures to make them more flexible and inspired by a more exalted level of reality.

It's no wonder that this transit has been associated with depression and disillusionment but that's a mid-stream expression that precedes greater clarity with how to manifest vision in the "real world".

Jupiter continues his joyful and at times excessive passage through Leo, shifting into Virgo for some slower, earthier expression in August. He and his queen Juno, goddess of marriage have been in a dance for months but not quite touching, part of the long term process for reforming our ideas about commitment and relationship. They finally come together in May, an ecstatic union and one expression of the sacred marriage.

Clearly, it's going to be a powerful and complex year. The more we can stay in touch with our bodies and honour our own earthiness, while taking opportunities for liberating self expression, we can move well with its multiple demands.
