Get Up and Go

Energy and fire of the Centaur makes for a straight-shooting month

It feels good to have entered the realms of Sagittarius after the eclipse-derived psychic intensity of November, as the Centaur occupies a clearer and more open space in the matrix of the zodiac. He is a big energy, of wide open spaces and even bigger skies and his fire pushes for honesty and straight-shooting, while occasionally gushing with bouts of supreme optimism, generosity of spirit and a wild joy.

He is not the most sensitive of signs though and, like the other fire signs, will tend to want to leap over places of sticky and vulnerable emotion. And this is where it gets tricky this month. While he gets a great trine from Uranus in Aries, a fantastically enlivening boost from the sky god, the Sun also gets a hard aspect to Chiron in Pisces - the Wounded Healer in the ultra-sensitive realms of the fish.

Uranus trine the Sun is a brilliant aspect for expressing one's individuality and its more revolutionary and unorthodox urges, a high chakra energy that goes well with the passion and inspirational qualities of both these fire signs. Basically, this is a "get up and go" time for making creative changes. This is given even more depth and potency by the presence of Medusa next to Uranus, as the Gorgon is having her own revolution, allowing more of her sacred warrior energies to be available to those ready for her.

The square from the Sun to Chiron represents a conflict between the expressive urges of the Sagittarian Sun, with the healing agendas of Chiron to dive deeply into the emotional and psychic worlds to recover more of our sensitivity and mystical creative gifts. The agenda here is to heal both our fire and our vulnerable energies, and to work towards creating a greater integration between these very different aspects of our psyches, so that the actions of our more extroverted selves are sensitised and informed by the psychic, intuitive and creative gifts of Pisces. It will get a little messy along the way though.

The healing energies around and through Pisces are also prominent as Neptune, who is still in a wide conjunction to Chiron in Pisces, and sextile the goddess Hygeia asteroid on the South Node of the Moon in Taurus. Neptune acts like a psychic sponge, drawing the healing gifts of this kundalini goddess and her connections with our past life histories. For those in the process of developing their healing skills, this is one of those times when its not so much about gathering new information but of opening up to what already exists within the deeper layers of ourselves. This makes it an especially good time for regression work.

Saturn has now moved into the second half of Scorpio in his two and a half year trawl through the sign, coming out of a conjunction with Mercury as the month begins. At 17 degrees, he is forming one of the most balancing of aspects in astrology, with a trine with his opposite and complement Jupiter, one that colours the whole month.

Here the forces of expansion and contraction, grace and self effort, growth and stabilisation, optimism and realism come into a unifying and mutually supportive relationship. After the chaos of the last months, this is welcome respite and a chance to ground and develop whatever creative opportunities, new awarenesses and even new directions that may have emerged from this period.

Saturn is also at the midpoint of a trine between Venus in Capricorn and Mars in Virgo, sextiling both ends of this traditionally beneficial relationship between the goddess of love and her warrior husband. This is a good earthy combination that generates quieter, deeper expression of their mutual passion and creative juices.

As usual though, Saturn will also test us out with what can be called "character building" and this time his more intense focus is through a T-square between Juno in Aquarius and Lilith in Leo. It's a challenge between the seemingly opposite energies of the goddess of marriage and the fiercely independent energies of Lilith, one to identify the degree of imbalances in any relationship and push people to take responsibility for working on correcting them. This is also an opportunity to work with darker, disowned forces within that sabotage intimacy and connection, as well as the loss of healthy autonomy and equality in long term relationships.

Again on the relationship front, while we've seen that Venus has good aspects to Mars and Saturn, it also has an opposition to Jupiter in Cancer. The latter is another normally great aspect but Jupiter is exactly conjunct the Black Moon, a deep sacred expression of the Great Mother, whose Shakti specialises in slicing away delusion, denial, old attachments and relationships that are no longer appropriate. In those connections that are valid and rightful, she will create intensely alchemical experiences that bring us to the deepest truths, that purge our impurities and shatter our illusion, ultimately in the name of creating relationships based on these truths, on equality and mutual empowerment.

Jupiter and the Black Moon ensure that both power and grace are present in equal measure, and this doesn't just apply to relationships; it's a collective calling of our time.
