'Get Things Done' Time

Astrology with Daniel Sowelu

This month is a warrior's time, one that gathers tremendous focus of energy for assertion, action and physical manifestation. It is simultaneously a powerful time for getting things done and one of great, sometimes tough, learning.

When I speak of warriors I include both masculine and feminine forms and the line up of both around the Taurus Sun is deeply impressive. It includes Mars, Lilith and Pallas Athena in a close conjunction, one that tightens to become near exact on the solar eclipse on the 10th (10am AEST)

The masculine Mars is at his dogged best physically in Taurus, a builder of solidity and stability. The goddess Lilith, despite a nasty reputation unhealed, is a magnificent sacred warriorress, full of psychosexual juice and absolutely fearless ferocity in the name of truth and justice. Pallas Athena is a much subtler warrior, not the blood and guts variety but one of intelligent strategy and the piercing use of mental and spiritual intent. Each one of this formidable combination has a glyph that includes sharp points for assertion, defence and protection, for spearheading fertile new enterprises, challenging the status quo and speaking the truth.

Used well then, and in Taurus this month is definitely "get things done" time, and there are abundant supports from other parts of the chart.

The Sun and its band of warriors trine a Moon/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn (more power and more earth!) and sextiles Neptune and Chiron in Pisces, who have another great feminine warrior, the sorceress Medusa, in the middle of them.

When Pluto gives good aspects to any form of warrior energy, it adds a whole other resource to whatever expressions we give it. It means our own personal energy reserves are not alone and we can tap into the deeper, fertile reservoirs of the unconscious. Our staying power is better, as long as we don't fall into the Plutonian seduction of compulsively driven action.

The Medusa/Chiron/Neptune combination is an interesting one, as it combines the often raw primal layers of the goddess with the Wounded Healer and the planet of psychic purification and mysticism. This mixture of healing Shakti and sensitivity can serve to refine the expressions of the warrior energies, linking the mundane physical dimensions with the spiritual. As we'll see, this has significant healing consequences, too. Now all this is obviously great but as in other recent months, there's a rather large Saturnian "but", in the form of oppositions from the warrior team to the Old Devil in Scorpio. So we have a situation where there's this huge potential for forward movement being at least partially frustrated by resistance or blockages from within and without.

Sometimes Saturn oppositions manifest as external difficulties that seem unrelated to self, like some disconnected sheer bloodymindedness on the part of the universe to frustrate our efforts towards advancement. Sometimes it will be a circumstance we can't control, at others an obstructionist individual will get in the way, to the same ends.

Under the surface though, Saturn is attempting to show us what we are not seeing, not prepared for, not even ready for. Part of his role is to help us identify our weaknesses, our unhealed places, our unconscious saboteurs, inner critics, old conditioned voices, by using the world to mirror them back at us. And like our more unpleasant dream figures, anything disowned will come at us in exaggerated guises, writ large to wake us up.

So this all begs the question as to why line up this bulldozing (pun unintended!) team of cohesive warriors, with their rare mix of masculine and feminine bodies, give them lots of powerful and sensitive support, then frustrate the hell out of them? The word that comes with this enquiry is alchemy; simply put, the brewing up of the dross inside us so that it rises to the surface, to be skimmed off so that we may find our inner gold, the essence of the self and its wisdom.

In this case, firstly, the Taurean side of us can get very black and white, dogmatic and wanting to deal with the simpler surface appearance of things, whereas Saturn in Scorpio says, "Go deeper, stretch your awareness and earthy skills downwards into the underlying layers of surface reality". To Mars and Lilith, Saturn says, "Let's see how much old rage you carry in relationship to the patriarch, the Old Fathers and the masculine in general" (This resonates with Medusa being close to Chiron, an opportunity for great healing of the toxic rage and grief that she carries inside us. And, turned around, seeing her confront the wounded Chiron's abuses to the feminine, while seeking to marry her intense Shakti to his healing power.)

And finally, with Pallas Athena, his challenge is towards her tendency to lose her connection with the deep feminine and its wisdom, in her efforts to play ball with the big boys (echoes of political leaders!), whereas she can be a brilliant mediator between the two.

Ultimately though, Saturn doesn't want to obstruct us indefinitely, he actually wants to make us and our inner warriors more effective! We may not like his methods but we can't help but admire the extraordinary intelligence behind his operations. Use it well!
